How to delete all your tweets in 3 easy steps

1. Enjoy twitter, the best way to connect with anyone in the world for at least ten years.

2. When the CEO’s actions to appease alt-right trolls are finally too much for you to bear, you’re now ready to burn it all to the ground.

3. Download your entire archive of tweets to date from twitter’s preferences. It may take a while to get a giant zip file from them (mine took about 10min and the file was 1.5Gb in size).

Twitter’s API only lets apps interact with up to 3,200 tweets. In my case, I had over 42 thousand so this was a problem. I tried TweetDelete but it only got the first 3200 in a few minutes. I believe there is a way to re-run it over again each day but I wanted something faster.

TweetDeleter has an unlimited option that costs $15/mo if you pay upfront for one month. I paid via PayPal, and don’t worry, you will only need it for one day. To me, the work required was worth the $15 to finally feel free.

Upload your official tweet archive so TweetDeleter can see every one of them. Then hit the Delete All option on the lower left sidebar. Say yes to a couple warnings to confirm.

About 2-3 hours later, all your tweets will be gone and TweetDeleter might tweet out as you without your knowledge that you used TweetDeleter, which, frankly, is pretty shitty for some service you paid $15 to use for 3 hours. Remember to cancel your membership when you’re all complete, since you won’t need to use TweetDeleter again.

Finally, it’s time to relax, knowing tonight you’ll have the best sleep in years.

Everything Bad About Facebook Is Bad for the Same Reason

Nikhil Sonnad, writing for Quartz:

Facebook didn’t intend for any of this to happen. It just wanted to connect people. But there is a thread running from Perkins’ death to religious violence in Myanmar and the company’s half-assed attempts at combating fake news. Facebook really is evil. Not on purpose. In the banal kind of way.

Underlying all of Facebook’s screw-ups is a bumbling obliviousness to real humans. The company’s singular focus on “connecting people” has allowed it to conquer the world, making possible the creation of a vast network of human relationships, a source of insights and eyeballs that makes advertisers and investors drool.

But the imperative to “connect people” lacks the one ingredient essential for being a good citizen: Treating individual human beings as sacrosanct. To Facebook, the world is not made up of individuals, but of connections between them.

Terrific essay.

When Zephyr Teachout is elected New York Attorney General, she's gonna emolumentize Trump right out of the White House

Zephyr Teachout (previously) isn't just an expert on antitrust law and corruption, and isn't merely a netroots pioneer who has been on the right side of every technology policy fight since the Gore years -- she's also running to be the Attorney General of the State of New York, from which position she plans on gutting Trump on his corrupt business practices, targeting him using the dread emoluments clause. Community Management

“A garden needs both fertilizer and weedkiller. But most of all it needs a gardener. Go back in and participate as much as before. Community manage with a heavy hand. Promote good people, respond to them. Make them shine. Build good admin tools to silence bad actors.”
